For this Pitta Bread Recipe – You will need:
INGREDIENTS
- 450gm Strong Bread Flour
- 10ml 2tsp salt
- 7gm dried fast acting yeast
- 280ml Lukewarm water
- 20ml olive oil
- 1 teaspoon caster sugar
METHOD
- Sift the flour salt and yeast together into a bowl
- Mix the olive oil sugar and water together in another bowl
- If you are making this recipe by hand gradually add the flour to the water mixture stirring all the time until you have a kneadable dough
- If you are using a machine with a dough hook add the flour first then gradually add in the water until you have a flexible combined dough mixture
- If you are manually making your pitta bread knead for 10 minutes
- If you are making your pitta bread using a machine with a dough hook knead for 5 minutes
- Leave at room temperature to rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size
- lightly knock back the dough then cut into 12 pieces
- Gently roll the pieces into balls
- Cover with lightly oiled cling film and leave to rise in a warm place for 10 minutes
- Preheat your oven to 230c
- Flour a work surface and roll out each ball to an oval 6″ long 1/4″ thick (15cm – 0.7cm)
- Transfer to baking trays and leave to rise again in a warm room for another 10 minutes
- Transfer to the oven and cook for about 5 minutes or until they puff up like balloons!
- Cool on a wire rack and then cover with a cloth to keep them soft and easy to split
